Sadly in a few months time it will be a goodbye from us for a while. I've decided to make the painful decision to take break from Yull after the next drop. Life is quite different now and my time is much more valuable.
Over the last fews years I have enjoyed working on more and more private label projects. I love the energy and enthusiasm of working on projects and being a part of start ups.
I'm sure that it won't be a goodbye forever but for the next few seasons I will be taking a break from designing for Yull to focus myself on private label projects.
That of course means that Yull will be having a huge stock clearance on all remaining styles which starts today! We have also sorted out our shipping rates now across Europe and the Channel Islands, tax is removed at checkout to all of these regions (20%).
Have you have ever wanted to start your own shoe line or maybe you are a brand or boutique thinking to have your own shoe style? If so, then please do get in touch, sarah@yull.co.uk.
We will also be doing a pop up in August in Guernsey at The Outlet in the market with our last remaining stock - be sure to pop in!

Time to get colourful & positive
- World Colour day, 21st March -
I just got back from the slopes and for those who know, I take skiing very seriously. Having missed the last three years to lockdowns and pregnancy it was even more gratifying, I couldn’t believe that I was there to be honest.
It was certainly full of colour on the slopes against the white runs and the blue sky. On returning back to the UK I really noticed the difference in the colours that people wear, we are all good at dressing to our surroundings and probably subconsciously.
Upon my return I was delighted to see that the daffodils are now in full bloom along with the camellias, the crocuses are out and the magnolia trees are in bud - It made me feel positive. I even sent some photos of them to my mother and she said that they lifted her spirits. It reminded me of the reason I design brightly coloured shoes, in a world full of black and brown shoes, some colour on your feet certainly lifts your mood and inspires positivity to those around you.
We all need some positivity in 2022!
Red: excitement, love, and energy
Orange: confidence, bravery, and success
Yellow: creativity, happiness, and warmth
Green: healing, freshness, and tranquility
Blue: trust, peace, and loyalty
Pink: compassion, sincerity, and sweetness
Purple: royalty, ambitious, and luxurious
Love,
Sarah

]]>How Valentine's used to be?
- Who gets valentine? I suppose no one knows who gets valentine. -
Valentine's day used to be when you received a card or flowers from a secret admirer. The card could even simply just have a question mark written inside. Just like 29th February, the leap day - the Irish legend when women are allowed to propose men, it was day when you finally could build up the confidence to approach a love interest.
However Valentine's Day has now become a somewhat depressing day for singles. How did a day for singles turn into a day for couples?
Every year without fail for as long as I can remember my Father sent me a valentine's card. Some years it was rather obvious because his handwriting was very distinguishable but sometimes he would have a colleague write it and then I never knew it was from him.
Valentine's is a day for love of a child, parent, friend, pet or even a house plant if you fancy. It is an opportunity to let those whom we love know how much we love and appreciate them.
For me - I will always have shoes ;)
Love,
Sarah

]]>The world has got the marketing for January wrong.
- January is a time for hibernation. -
January is not a time to go straight into fifth gear and lose all of our Christmas stores in 2 weeks - we need our Christmas chub to get through the month.
Chinese New Year for me always comes at a better time to think about the year ahead and start our New Year. The period between Christmas and Chinese New Year should be our hibernation time.
If you're still eating mince pies in January - I salute you. We should be!
However I barely saw a mince pie for sale after 22nd December this year. Easter eggs however were in full bloom before the end of December though.
Marketing now has us living too much in the future, I want to enjoy the now and live in the moment. It's not spring yet so why should we be buying clothes for Spring? I'll be freezing if I wear most of the clothes on sale in the shops at the moment.
As we look to the lunar New Year on 1st February 2022 - the year of the tiger, we can now start to think about the year ahead.
For Yull we are going into our 11th year of business and this year we will bring you shoes that will better your life. We are focusing on shoes that lift your mood and don't compromise on comfort. Shoes that are fun and make you feel good about your individual self.
We are still a small brand, producing short runs of each style. We are proud of our sustainability throughout all that we do and our mission of eliminating waste.
Welcome to 2022 - the year of the Tiger.
I would love to hear from our customers, what have been your favourite shoes over the last 10 years? Ones that you are still wearing 10 years later and have stood the test of time?
Love,
Sarah

Happy YullTide! 🕊
Tuesday 21st December 2021 is the first of twelve days of the winter 'Yule' festival celebrating the winter solstice.
We've been using our own phrase/hashtag 'YullTide' for a while now but this year we've delved a bit deeper into the true meaning of 'yule' and 'yuletide' and how our very own version 'YullTide' has come about.
You may have heard of 'yuletide carol' and 'yule log' during the festive season but where do the words 'yule' and 'yuletide' come from?
The word 'yuletide' is a combination of 'yule', from the pagan winter festival Jol, and tide, which here refers to a midwinter festival celebrating the winter solstice, traditionally marking the halfway point of the winter season.
Traditions associated with 'yule' vary widely but most commonly consist of a hearty celebratory feast including caroling, drinking, and dancing. Later, christians adopted aspects of the pagan festival into a celebration of the birth of Christ. As Christianity began to spread in the 4th century, the Christmas feast day was set on December 25 by Pope Julius I to align with the Roman pagan holiday Dies natalis solis invicti, 'the birthday of the invincible Sun.'
In modern use, the word 'yuletide' is occasionally invoked as a synonym for Christmas.
Our own version 'YullTide' is a play on words and is a fun way of celebrating wearing Yull Shoes at Christmas time. When Yull Shoes was started in October 2010 the name was in honour of Founder Sarah Watkinson-Yull's surname and heritage.
Some of my family come from Norfolk and were bakers owning Yull's Bakery at 17 Church Street, East Dereham which specialised in bread, pastry and cakes. My grandfather George Albert Robert Yull (born in 1909) married my grandmother Gladys Watkinson from Hipperholme, Yorkshire and my father, George Watkinson-Yull was their eldest son.
So you can see retail is in my blood and I wanted to honour this when naming my own business.
YullTide might be used by us as a bit of marketing fun but when you think about it, it is a time to celebrate our family and their hard work and entrepreneurial spirit over the years.
Happy YullTide 🎄

Taking maternity leave from your own business is almost non-existent.
I plodded through the first one in February 2020 alongside a global pandemic mostly thanks to my amazing colleagues Kathryn and Nicole.
This time with the prospect of two under two I’ve decided that I will definitely need to take a step back.
Online and wholesale orders will still continue in the same way thanks to our amazing team but if you’re wondering why we aren't releasing any new designs for Autumn/Winter, it’s because I shall be navigating around the challenge of #2under2.
Please send tips! 🙏🏻
A huge thank you again to all of our customers who continue to support us year after year. 😘
Love Sarah & William x

I really can't believe that it has been a decade of Yull!
A lot has happened in 10 years but also a lot hasn't changed. We are still bright and colourful and still producing timeless designs like Brighton since 2011. ✨
It has been an incredible journey and I have learnt so much and met so many interesting people but 10 years is just the start. We still have a long journey ahead of us, especially in these testing times. Some retailers that I have been chasing every season for the last decade are only just starting to place orders now.
We couldn't have reached this far without all you lovely Yullettes supporting our motto #styleoverfashion so thank you. 💋
Love Sarah & the Yull Team

I would argue a strong ‘Yes’, that what you are wearing on your feet can make a huge difference to your posture, sense of empowerment and subsequently affect how others communicate with you, even through a screen! The long and short of it is… Confidence!
During the first lockdown it was quite a novelty to wear pyjama bottoms and slippers when we were ‘working’… but as time goes on and we still find ourselves in the same situation, for me (and most of my friends) the novelty has truly worn off and we all long to get dressed up and feel more attractive whenever we get a chance. We don’t have to be wearing a flashy outfit to communicate confidence, but wearing a pair of shoes you love and feeling ‘snazzy’ can help boost your spirit, strength and ultimately, your skills within.
However, there is no one-size-fits-all formula when it comes to finding your perfect pair of power shoes, and the same individual may vary one day to the next… one day you may feel quiet, but confidently calm. The next, you might be feeling more feisty. So it is about choosing the shoes that reflect (or possibly disguise) your emotions, so you feel in control of the day. That could be about a print, bold colour or having the confidence to wear an unusual pair of shoes. In a world where we are all striving to judge (and be judged) less, there is more opportunity to experiment with what works for you to fully capture the mood enhancing benefits that fashion can provide. Having that, is what will give you confidence.
There are no rules, but some may feel better when they opt for flat shoes in order to feel comfortable and self-assured. Others may get a buzz from a pair of killer heels. Rich, vibrant colours inspire some people daily and others find it empowering to try something new and make it their own. The main thing is trying on shoes that you love and seeing the different emotions they create!

Not to worry - we are mostly all the same. It is that time of year again when we put our flip flops back in the wardrobe and the covered toe shoes come out. Maybe you are going back to the office and have to wear shoes again!
At the end of summer our feet are on average half a size larger. The same as our rings feeling tighter in the heat and at the end of the day from finger swelling, the same is true for our feet. It is however very noticeable at the end of the summer. Suddenly getting your feet into new shoes can feel rather like getting toothpaste back into the tube.
Don't worry though as by mid September they are usually back to their normal size. However with the added bonus of lockdown, you probably haven't been wearing heels, hey, you probably haven't worn anything other than flip flops or trainers - it might take a bit longer. Just make sure you don't leave it too long or you may suffer from foot spread and that would mean buying all new shoes!

To give you a little insight into the Yull brand, we want to introduce you to the one who started it all. Internet meet Sarah Watkinson-Yull.
In 2011, Sarah never imagined that she would soon be running an internationally known shoe brand. Flash forward 9 years, what began as some fun and an experiment, of sorts, turned into a career and dream fulfilled for Sarah.
The Yull idea truly dates back to her first year at University in 2011. That same year Sarah was awarded help from the Prince’s Trust on their enterprise scheme.
“The funding, help, knowledge, and support I had from them was outstanding,” Sarah said.
Still, it did not happen like magic. The Yull you know today took a lot of hard work and dedication on her part to develop the brand and garner support.
That hard work and dedication has not faded since. A typical workday for Sarah consists of juggling her 5-month baby and taking part in the learning curve that is happening all over the world with the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Every day is different and certainly not boring,” Sarah said.
Before, she had to juggle the business with a full-time degree and part-time job. “I thought I was the busiest then I would ever be- until I had the baby!” Sarah jokes.
While her work style may have changed since her Uni days, she still remains completely dedicated to the brand and its growth. The focus now is adapting to this everchanging environment and growth of e-commerce as we return to life post-pandemic.
What makes Yull different from other shoe brands, you ask? Yull caters to everyone. Every age. Every style. Every occasion. It is something we pride ourselves on.
One of our missions is sourcing our materials from sustainable sources. Yull only uses leathers that are a bi product of the meat industry and all packaging is from ethical suppliers.
The motto is “Style Over Fashion,” as Yull aims to provide the customers with a colorful range of products suitable for any occasion. As we enter the Autumn and Winter seasons, a new collection of boots, trainers, and flats with classic and elegant twists are ready to meet any need you may have.
]]>Out with the old and in with the new, as they say.

Red midi skirt and Black overall dress
Next up, Wrexham with lined tweed backs, painted heels, and a suede upper. Ankle heeled boots that are so classic and are guaranteed to make you look the chicest of all.
